Neurofascial Release

Helping Your Body Release Tension and Restore Natural Movement

Modern life places many demands on the body. Physical strain, emotional stress, repetitive movements, poor posture, injury, surgery and even prolonged periods of sitting can all create patterns of tension that become "stored" within the body's muscles and connective tissues. Over time, these patterns can restrict movement, contribute to discomfort and affect how your whole body functions.

Neurofascial Release, (also known as Body Stress Release), is a gentle, hands-on therapy designed to help your body release these deeply held tension patterns. Rather than forcing muscles to relax or manipulating joints, it works by encouraging your fascia and soft tissues to let go of accumulated stress naturally.

What is Neurofascial Release?

Neurofascial Release is based on the understanding that when the body experiences physical, emotional or chemical stress, it can adapt by tightening muscles and fascia (the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, nerves and organs). While this protective response is helpful in the short term, sometimes the body doesn't fully let go once the stress has passed.

These persistent tension patterns may reduce mobility, alter posture, place strain on joints and nerves, and contribute to a wide range of symptoms.

Neurofascial Release uses a series of gentle assessments and precise, targeted contacts to encourage the body to release these areas of tension and restore more balanced movement and function.

Neurofascial Release does not involve forceful manipulation. Most people find the treatment deeply relaxing while noticing subtle but meaningful changes in how their body feels and moves.

Who Can Benefit?

Neurofascial Release may be suitable for people of all ages, whether you are living with ongoing discomfort or simply feel that your body is carrying more tension than it should.

People commonly seek treatment for:

  • Persistent neck, shoulder or back tension
  • Recurrent headaches or jaw tension
  • Muscle stiffness and restricted movement
  • Sciatica or nerve-related discomfort
  • Sports injuries and repetitive strain
  • Recovery after injury or surgery
  • Postural issues from desk work or prolonged sitting
  • General aches and pains without an obvious cause
  • Physical tension associated with prolonged stress

Many clients also choose Neurofascial Release because they feel "tight all over", find it difficult to relax physically, or notice that their body never quite returns to normal after an injury or stressful period.

How is it Different from Massage or Chiropractic Care?

Each therapy has its own unique focus.

Massage works primarily with muscles to reduce tension and improve circulation. Chiropractic care focuses on restoring healthy movement and function within the joints and nervous system.

Neurofascial Release takes a different approach by working with the body's stored tension patterns within the fascia and nervous system. It aims to encourage the body to release protective holding patterns that may have developed over months or even years.

Many clients find that Neurofascial Release complements other therapies and can form part of a broader treatment plan.

What Happens During a Session?

Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your health, symptoms and history.

Treatment is performed while you remain fully clothed, lying comfortably on a specially designed couch. Liezel uses a series of gentle body assessments to identify where your body is holding protective tension. Small, precise contacts are then applied to encourage these areas to release naturally. Unlike other forms of fascia release, this therapy is gentle and shouldn’t be painful.

Because the body often releases tension gradually, many people benefit from an initial series of appointments before moving to maintenance sessions if appropriate.

What Might You Notice Afterwards?

Everyone responds differently, but many people report feeling:

  • Lighter and less restricted
  • More mobile and flexible
  • Less muscular tension
  • Better posture and easier movement
  • Greater comfort during everyday activities
  • More relaxed overall
  • Some people notice improvements immediately, while others experience gradual changes as their body continues to adapt over the following days.
