Reconnect with your body. Explore what you're holding. Create space for change.

Our physical and emotional experiences are closely connected. Everyday stress, physical tension and challenging life experiences can influence how we feel, move and relate to ourselves. Yet in the demands of daily life, it can be easy to overlook our bodies and the signals they give us.

At Belfast Wellness Clinic, Paul McAllister offers personalised Somatic Bodywork in a compassionate, supportive space where you can slow down, reconnect with your body and explore your experiences at your own pace.

What is Somatic Bodywork?

Somatic Bodywork is a body-centred approach to wellbeing that brings together touch, breath, movement and awareness. It offers an opportunity to become more aware of physical sensations, explore patterns of tension and develop a deeper understanding of your body's needs and boundaries.

Drawing on somatic practices, fascia-oriented bodywork, breathwork and mindful movement, each session is tailored to you. There is no fixed treatment sequence or expectation to achieve a particular outcome. Instead, the focus is on your individual experience, comfort and preferences.

Paul's approach recognises the whole person, acknowledging that our physical health, emotions, personal experiences and environment can all influence how we feel. The emphasis is on working with you, rather than imposing an approach or interpretation upon you.

Who may benefit from Somatic Bodywork?

Somatic Bodywork may be of interest if you:
•    Experience ongoing stress, physical tension or discomfort and would like to explore a gentle, body-centred approach to relaxation and awareness.
•    Find it difficult to slow down, switch off or recognise when you need rest.
•    Feel disconnected from your body or emotions and want to develop greater awareness of physical sensations and personal boundaries.
•    Notice recurring patterns of muscular tension or restricted movement that you would like to explore through bodywork and mindful movement.
•    Are navigating a challenging period, grief, uncertainty or significant life changes and would value a supportive space for reflection.
•    Simply want to take time for yourself, experience nurturing bodywork and develop a more compassionate relationship with your body.
You do not need to have experienced trauma, be struggling emotionally or have a particular physical concern to attend. You also do not need any previous experience of bodywork or breathwork.

What happens during a session?

Every session is individual, but appointments generally include three stages.

1. An initial conversation
We begin by discussing how you are feeling, what has brought you to the session and what you would like to explore. Paul will also discuss relevant health considerations, your preferences and any boundaries around touch or movement. You are always welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
2. Personalised bodywork and awareness
Depending on your needs and preferences, the session may include somatic touch, fascia-oriented bodywork, gentle movement, optional breathing practices, body awareness or periods of rest and stillness. Not every technique is used in every session.
Any hands-on work is discussed and agreed beforehand. Touch is optional, and your consent and comfort remain central throughout.
3. Reflection and closing
Towards the end of the session, there is time to reflect on your experience and notice how you feel. If appropriate, Paul may suggest simple practices, comfortable movement or rest to support your ongoing wellbeing. There is no expectation to interpret your experiences or reach a particular conclusion.

A personalised, respectful approach

Your experience, preferences and boundaries are central to Somatic Bodywork. Paul's approach is grounded in respect for your autonomy and recognition that you are the expert in your own lived experience.
There is no pressure to discuss difficult experiences, revisit the past or produce an emotional response. The intention is to provide a supportive space in which you can explore what feels relevant to you, without judgement or predetermined expectations.

How much touch is involved?
